So it’s introduction time. My name is Shauna and I’m a new mom who just happens to struggle with a mental illness. I’m also a pageant girl and an avid DIYer.

A little about myself

I am married to my high school sweetheart. We met when I was 16 (over 12 years ago…eek!) and he had just moved to California from Georgia. 10 years later we moved back to Georgia to start our family. We now have a 4 month old daughter, Clare, and two furbabies, Remington and Ruger.

We love working on our house and building furniture together. Our very first project in the new house was building our farmhouse dining room table with nothing but a miter saw and a power drill. It was  a blast and so we continued. We renovated our guest bathroom and I got to play with a hammer drill to rip up the old tile (which was hideous and super 90’s). We are getting ready to turn our basement from a black hole of storage to a family room, guest room, and playroom.

I was diagnosed with Bipolar II, ADHD, and Generalized Anxiety disorder in 2008. Being Bipolar has made my life a little harder than most because what I feel isn’t always rational and it doesn’t always feel natural. When I’m having an episode I know it because I get irritated or depressed at the smallest things and after a day like that I know that it isn’t logical to be so upset about something so small. I have to battle small things everyday to keep control of my life and continue living it to the fullest.

Follow me here and on twitter and Facebook to see where this journey takes me. I’ll be posting updates at least once a week. I hope to see you around.
